I have 2020 freightliner cascadia, 185k miles on it, at the first try truck cranks but wont start, always at the second try it starts, i took it to dealership, they replaced the mcm,. The starter motor should crank with a good power and ground coming from the main cables of the battery and then 12 v.

Starter was replaced with new. Don't know what they did for them but they were towed to freightliner. We had two of seven cascadia's with starter problems.

I left freightliner in 2007 not one truck had a clutch switch then they have 2 starter relays, one on the firewall upper left area, and the one on the starter. P4 vin jz9605 that has an intermittent issue where the truck won't crank nor start.
This fault causes a downshift only fallback. Ive checked all fuses, starters good, starter wires and keyswitch wire is good. Fault code is set when the tecu fails to receive shift device data for 5 continuous seconds, and it is still communicating with other modules on can. Or at least that's what it sounds like is going on on key start activation.
Once identified, they can be investigated and resolved individually. Wasn't having to wait for the lights to go out.
